Configuration and problem: Desktop PC and Laptop, both runningс Windows 7 Ultimate x32, with customized Homegroup and shared folders. They are connected to Internet via wireless router. Norton Internet Security firewall is present, with a Trust Zone set up. Both of the Computers have configured static IP addresses. IPv6 is enabled, Teredo Tunneling protocol is disabled. After some time it appears that the Homegroup of the Desktop PC is not visible to the Laptop anymore. The shared files on the Laptop Homegroup are still available to the Desktop and the Network shared files are still there on both PCs. The Homegroup Troubleshooter Wizard cannot detect and fix the problem.
Solution: valid only in case that the Laptop has been used to connect to another wireless Network or by any reason has to reconnect to the home router. The Homegroup is connecting the computer via the IPv6 protocol and currently there are few users that are configuring a static IPv6 address. On reconnection to the router even when a static IPv4 address is present, the IPv6 settings are assigned automatically and are not longer the same as on the initial setup of the Homegroup. This is exactly the reason that the connectivity becomes limited from the Laptop to the Desktop. The Desktop shared files and folders on the Laptop network folder are still there and are accessible, because their connectivity is based on the IPv4 protocol. The fixing of this problem takes not more than 10 minutes.
Leave the Homegroup on the both PCs. Create a new Homegroup on the Laptop. Write down the key and join the new Homegroup on the Desktop. Check on the new Homegroup and compare to the Libraries on the both PCs all the files that you decided to share in Music, Videos, Documents and Pictures. If some of the files or folders are not present remove the folder, containing them from the Locations, refresh the library and add the folder again. Now it has to appear on the other Computer. This solution worked for me and I hope that you can put it to a good use as well.
